The North Carolina Virtual Public School was established by the North Carolina General Assembly to serve students who are enrolled in a North Carolina public school.
SECTION 7.20.(d) . . . . . . . . . . NCVPS shall be available at no cost to all students in North Carolina who are enrolled in North Carolina’s public schools, Department of Defense schools, and schools operated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The Department of Public Instruction shall communicate to local school administrative units all applicable guidelines regarding the enrollment of nonpublic school students in these courses.
One option for home-schooled and private school students to participate in NCVPS courses is a school system’s Visiting Students’ policy. This policy may permit students to enroll in NCVPS courses through the local school systems’ access to the NCVPS registration system. Student grades would be reported by NCVPS to the local school system. Participation by home-schooled students is a decision made by school system administrators.
Check with your local school district for policies and procedures related to home school and private school enrollment in your county. All local schools rules will apply.
The North Carolina State Board of Education (SBE) passed a new policy allowing local education agencies (LEAs) to enroll non-public school students into online courses offered by the North Carolina Virtual Public School (NCVPS) and to collect fees for such enrollments.
