TEACHING REQUIREMENTS

TEACHING FOR NCVPS

We are offering part time teaching positions for this year. Courses are taught online using provided course content and Blackboard learning management system. Instruction is predominantly asynchronous, which means that students and teachers can access the course and participate at various times and need not be online simultaneously. Instruction is structured to provide a variety of learning experiences, from individual assignments to collaborative projects and virtual field trips. Students may access the course anytime to read assignments, respond to the forums, collaborate with other students on projects, and discuss concepts with the teacher.

REQUIREMENTS TO TEACH

The North Carolina State Board of Education requires teachers who teach for North Carolina Virtual Public School to have either a North Carolina teaching license or be eligible to hold a NC license. Lateral entry teachers currently teaching in NC must submit a letter from the school confirming employment.

Teachers need to have excellent computer skills and be prepared to spend more time online with students, facilitating learning, than in a typical face to face classroom. Office hours will be posted and maintained for student and parent contact.

APPLICATION INFORMATION

We are now taking applications for summer and fall part time teaching positions. The new online form can be found at http://ncvpsapp.dpi.state.nc.us/ncvps.

You must have your resume ready in a file format to upload during the application process. Once you have submitted your information, you will not have the ability to change it. If there are changes that must be made to your information you will need to email Ellen Woods after submitting online.

If you are selected to teach for NCVPS, these documents will be required:

  • Current teaching license. Teaching licenses must be on file with NCVPS prior to being employed.

  • Three references

  • North Carolina State Application (PD-107) form

Online Training will be required to be considered –

  • You must have Blackboard Training. We are currently using Blackboard version 7.2. Training will be provided to our critical needs areas as needed otherwise applicants can complete training with local community colleges or universities. Be prepared to provide documentation of this training. If your training is with an older version, then you may wish to update your training.

  • In addition, you must have either DATOC (which was renamed to TOC) or Teaching Online Courses – Carolina Online Teacher Program, which is available through Learn NC. If you have previous online training, please be prepared to show documentation of training and NCVPS will consider this on a case by case basis.

If you are considered for a part-time teaching position, you will be notified by phone and e-mail. Selection and subsequent hiring is subject to course offerings and enrollments. NCVPS will be reviewing applications and hiring prior to the start of classes. Due to the anticipated large volume of applications, individual requests for status and updates in the hiring process will not be addressed.
